Description

A common seagrass species frequently found in mixed meadows. Cymodocea rotundata is recognized by its distinctive rounded leaf tips and often grows alongside Thalassia hemprichii.

Morphology

Flat leaves 3–9 mm wide with rounded tips and smooth margins. Rhizomes are horizontal with vertical shoots.

Habitat

Shallow subtidal areas with sandy or sandy-muddy substrates.

Distribution

Widespread in the Indo-Pacific region.

Ecological Role

Important grazing resource. Contributes to sediment stabilization and carbon sequestration.
